Editor’s Note: The 7th tee at Gullane No. 1 is the finest viewpoint in Scottish golf — from 160 feet above sea level, the entire Edinburgh coastline from the Pentland Hills to the Bass Rock and across the Firth of Forth to Fife is spread before you. That view alone would justify the round; the course beneath it is equally extraordinary. Gullane No. 1 is the most complete natural links in East Lothian — and consistently undervalued by those who look only at Muirfield and North Berwick.

4. Key Strategy Notes
- Hole 7 — Par 3, 156 Yards: Spend the first few minutes on this tee simply looking — Edinburgh, Arthur’s Seat, the Pentland Hills, Bass Rock and the Lammermuir Hills are all visible. Then pick a club (wind direction wildly variable at this elevation) and hit the green.
- Holes 10–18: The back nine drops from the hilltop back toward the village — a glorious downhill journey with the Firth of Forth constantly in view.
