Location: Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, USA | Ranking: #52 — The Global Golfer Top 100
Type: Coastal Parkland | Designer: Pete Dye (1980)
Editor’s Note: The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass is the most recognisable course in professional golf — and the 17th island green is the most photographed single hole on earth. Pete Dye built the Players Championship venue as an amphitheatre for spectators; the grass banks and mounding around every green create a gallery-friendly design unlike any other on the PGA Tour. For the visiting golfer, it is a chance to stand exactly where Seve, Tiger, Rory and every great player of the modern era has stood. The 17th will make your hands shake.

Key Strategy Notes
- Hole 17 — Par 3, 137 Yards: The most famous par 3 in professional golf — an island green with absolutely no bail-out. 15 of the Players Championship’s 40 years have been decided on this hole. The hole has claimed over 120,000 balls since 1982.
- Hole 18 — Par 4, 440 Yards: Water right throughout — the drive must find the left side to open an approach to a severely bunkered green. The TPC Sawgrass amphitheatre finishing complex holds 30,000 spectators during The Players.
The 19th Hole
- TPC Sawgrass Marriott (5★): Resort hotel adjacent to the course — overnight packages include guaranteed tee times. Book via Expedia →
- St Augustine: 45 minutes south — America’s oldest city, with exceptional seafood restaurants and Spanish colonial architecture.
