Location: Les Bordes, Loir-et-Cher, Loire Valley, France  |  Ranking: #73 — The Global Golfer Top 100
Type: Forest Parkland  |  Designer: Robert von Hagge (1987)

Editor’s Note: Les Bordes was built by Baron Marcel Bich for himself and his friends. He hired Robert von Hagge to build something exceptional in the Sologne forest — the result was one of the finest parkland courses in Europe and the best in France by a significant margin. Fourteen water features, dramatic elevation changes and Augusta-quality conditioning through mature chêne and birch forest create an experience of great beauty and genuine strategic challenge. The estate hotel renovation makes this the destination it always deserved to be.

Key Notes & 19th Hole

  • Hole 18 — Par 4, 432 Yards: The finishing hole runs along the main lake to a green framed by the manor house — one of the great finishing sequences in French golf. The approach over water to a peninsula green is demanding regardless of the score.
  • The Loire Châteaux: Chambord (20 mins), Chenonceau (40 mins) and Villandry (50 mins) — the world’s greatest concentration of Renaissance châteaux. A round at Les Bordes combined with an evening at Chambord is a perfect French day.
  • Les Bordes Estate Hotel: Manor house accommodation on site — the most atmospheric golf stay in France. Book via Expedia →
