Why Play

Aberdovey offers one of the most authentic links experiences in Wales. The course sits on a narrow ribbon of natural ground beside the Dyfi estuary, with dunes, railway and coastal weather shaping both the atmosphere and the strategy. It rewards imagination, patience and a willingness to use the ground.

Course Character

The routing moves through low dunes and firm links turf, creating subtle changes in stance, bounce and visibility. Several holes appear straightforward from the tee, but crosswinds, angled greens and small target areas quickly reveal the challenge.

The course does not rely on dramatic elevation or excessive length. Its strength comes from rhythm, natural movement and the need to adapt shot shape and trajectory as conditions change.

Playing Intelligence

• Keep the ball below the wind: controlled trajectories are more reliable than high, spinning shots.
• Use the fairway contours: firm turf can feed a well-planned drive or approach towards the target.
• Allow for release: shots landing short of the green can finish closer than aerial approaches.
• Respect changing direction: the wind affects each stretch differently as the routing turns.
• Avoid forcing recovery shots: take the simple exit when dunes or rough remove the direct route.
