Location: Kohler, Wisconsin, USA  |  Ranking: #75
Designer: Pete Dye (1988)  |  Type: Parkland · River Valley  |  Green Fees: From $195

Editor’s Note: Blackwolf Run River Course hosted the 1998 US Women’s Open — Se Ri Pak waded barefoot into the rough on 18 for a recovery shot that launched Korean women’s golf globally. Pete Dye built the course along the Sheboygan River’s glacial bluffs — seven holes follow the river, creating drama unavailable on flat Wisconsin terrain. Combined with Whistling Straits next door, Kohler is the Midwest’s finest golf destination.

Key Strategy Notes

  • Hole 18 — Par 4, 430 Yards: Se Ri Pak waded barefoot into the rough during the 1998 US Women’s Open playoff — her recovery to 10 feet launched Korean women’s golf. The closing hole curves left over the river to a green backed by glacial bluffs.
  • The Sheboygan River: In play on seven holes. Water carries on 5, 9, 14 and 18 are the defining moments of the round.

The 19th Hole

  • The American Club (5★): The Midwest’s finest resort — original workers’ housing transformed into five-star luxury. Two of America’s top 50 courses share one estate with Whistling Straits next door. Book via Expedia →
