The Course

To reach Broadway Golf Club, you drive up through the village — past the honey-stone cottages, past Dormy House hotel, past the church — and continue climbing until the road levels out onto the high plateau of the Cotswold escarpment. The course unfolds across open, exposed terrain at around 900 feet above sea level, and the first thing you notice, before you even reach the first tee, is the view.

On a clear day — and the plateau has a different relationship with clarity to the valleys below — fourteen counties are said to be visible from Broadway Golf Club. The Vale of Evesham spreads west towards the Malverns. The Brecon Beacons are a smudge on the distant horizon. It is one of the most extraordinary settings for a round of golf in England, and it demands a certain mental adjustment before play begins: the views will distract you, and you must make peace with that fact early.

The golf itself is challenging, exposed and honest. The course stretches to over 6,200 yards from the back markers and plays to a par of 72, but the yardage understates the difficulty significantly. The wind at altitude is not the gentle breeze of a sheltered parkland; it is a consistent, directional force that changes the playing length of every hole by one to three clubs depending on its direction. The golfer who plays Broadway in a strong westerly will experience a round that bears little resemblance to the same course in still air.

Broadway & Dormy House

Broadway Golf Club and Dormy House hotel are natural companions — the hotel sits at the foot of the hill below the course, and the combination of two rounds at Broadway with evenings at Dormy House’s Nest Spa represents one of the most complete Stay · Play · Recover experiences in the Cotswolds. The hotel’s restaurant is excellent, the spa exceptional, and the walk up the hill to the first tee the following morning is as invigorating a pre-round routine as English golf offers.

Key Notes
  • Wind is the defining factor — check direction before your round and build a strategy around it
  • The views will distract you on every tee shot — build this into your pre-shot routine rather than fighting it
  • Combine with Dormy House for the definitive Broadway Stay · Play · Recover package
  • The downhill par fives run considerably further than their yardage — factor in the roll on firm summer ground
  • Broadway village (15 minutes down the hill) is among the most beautiful in England — build in time to explore
  • The course is at its finest in late summer — the open plateau turns golden and the air is at its clearest
