Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club
A cliff-top Dorset course above the Jurassic Coast, combining exposed wind, coastal views and a compact traditional club setting near Bridport.

A clifftop course that belongs to West Dorset
The club moved to East Cliff in 1911 and became an 18-hole course in 1921. Today the routing looks across sea, shore and the Dorset hills, while variable wind and exposed ground change the playing problem from one visit to the next.

Four decisions that define the round
1st · Burton Drive
Find the centre of the dogleg fairway to open the green. Right brings two ponds and out of bounds into play; left lengthens the approach. The two-tier surface sheds balls steeply on its left side.
6th · Port Coombe
The 129-yard signature par three drops more than 90 feet. Wind and elevation can turn a nominal wedge into several different clubs. Commit to the carry and avoid the bunkers surrounding the green.
10th · Swans Dip
The back nine begins with a 175-yard par three over a pond. Recheck the yardage, favour enough club and treat the carry—not the flag—as the first requirement.
15th · Lyme View
At 443 yards and stroke index one, this is often played into the prevailing wind. Avoid out of bounds and the cliff edge left, accept the demanding second and regard par as an excellent result.
16th · West Bay
The longest hole needs a centred drive. The second must either carry the old quarry or leave a blind third. Plan the sequence before choosing the club rather than allowing the downhill fairway to make the decision.
18th · Home
A 183-yard par three in front of the clubhouse. The centre of the green is the intelligent target; left can reach out of bounds, while subtle contours make the final putt part of the examination.
Toptracer, short game and professional support
Toptracer range
Six covered and three outdoor mats carry Toptracer technology. The range is open to the public seven days a week, with no golf dress code and no separate charge for Toptracer beyond the basket of balls.
Short game
A public putting green and chipping green sit alongside the practice range, making it practical to prepare for the course’s exposed greens and elevation changes before teeing off.
PGA coaching
The club publishes coaching with PGA Professional Tom James, supported by 3D body tracking and launch-monitor technology. Book directly and confirm current availability.
