Modern championship scale
The PGA Centenary gives Gleneagles its most overt tournament-style challenge. Width from the tee does not remove the strategic decisions: fairway position, bunkering and the angle into large greens remain central, while the closing stretch brings water and demanding approach shots into play.
Build the round around position
Choose the right tee
The course was built at championship scale. Selecting a sensible tee keeps the strategic choices intact without turning the round into a sequence of forced carries.
Lay up deliberately
On longer holes, particularly where water influences the green, a controlled lay-up can create a better scoring position than a low-percentage second shot.
Finish with discipline
The 18th rewards placement left from the tee and then careful positioning before the approach to an angled, heavily defended green.
Gleneagles as a complete resort base
The estate combines three golf courses with accommodation, dining, country pursuits and a substantial spa and wellness offer, making it particularly useful for multi-round trips where golfers and non-golfing companions want the same base.
