Why play the Hunting
The Hunting is the headline round at Slaley Hall and has hosted professional golf across multiple tours. Its scale, elevation, tree framing and water demand disciplined positioning rather than repeated attempts to overpower the course.
How to approach it
Plan the par fives
For most resort golfers, a three-shot strategy protects the card better than forcing low-percentage second shots.
Take enough club
Raised targets and heavily contoured greens make under-clubbing expensive, particularly on the longer par threes.
Respect the finish
The closing par fours remain demanding. Keep the ball in position and avoid forcing recovery shots late in the round.
Stay · Play · Recover
Slaley Hall works best as a two-course break: play the Hunting as the flagship round, then use the Priestman for contrast. The resort also combines accommodation, a 20-metre pool, spa treatments and broader health-club facilities.
