St Enodoc Golf Club

James Braid links golf among natural dunes above the Camel Estuary — compact on the card, endlessly demanding in the wind and home to the unmistakable Himalaya bunker.

The Church Course

A North Cornwall round with its own rhythm

St Enodoc’s Church Course measures 6,557 yards from the blue tees and plays to par 69. Its challenge is not raw length: blind ground, exposed approaches, firm running turf and the wind continually change the correct line. The course moves through dunes beside the Camel Estuary and past the 12th-century St Enodoc Church, where Sir John Betjeman is buried.

How to play it

Six holes that shape the Church Course

1st · Par 5 · 528 yards

Begin with position

Use the opening hole to establish the wind and links bounce. A ball in play is worth more than forcing length before you understand how far the ground is releasing.

3rd · Par 4 · 440 yards

Respect the first major test

Stroke index two from the yellow/blue card. Take the tee club that gives the best chance of a controlled second shot and accept that a long approach into wind is part of the hole.

6th · Par 4 · 428 yards

Commit at Himalaya

The famous dune and bunker dominate the view. Choose the line before addressing the ball; a committed shot over the prescribed route is safer than steering uncertainly towards trouble.

10th · Par 4 · 457 yards

Play the card’s hardest hole

The longest par four is stroke index one and runs beside St Enodoc Church. Favour position from the tee and play the approach for the safest section rather than chasing an unlikely birdie.

13th · Par 4 · 395 yards

Use the correct angle

Stroke index three rewards a tee shot placed for the approach. Wind and firm turf can make the centre of the fairway less valuable than a line that opens the green.

16th · Par 5 · 560 yards

Plan it as three shots

The longest hole offers room for ambition, but the percentage route is drive, purposeful lay-up and a controlled third. Pick the lay-up yardage before choosing the second-shot club.

Visitor planning

Book through the club’s visitor tee-time system and confirm the current green fee, tee restrictions, handicap requirements and trolley or buggy arrangements. Coastal wind changes effective yardages quickly, so check the forecast and arrive with time to select the correct tees.

Build the trip

Make St Enodoc the North Cornwall anchor

Allow the course its own day rather than squeezing it between long transfers. Trevose and The Point at Polzeath create a practical wider swing, while the TGG Devon & Cornwall guide connects the coastal clusters, accommodation and recovery options.
