The Global Golfer Top 100
Cypress Point Club
Pebble Beach, California, USA  ·  #41 in the World

Location: Cypress Point, Pebble Beach, California, USA  |  Ranking: #41 — The Global Golfer Top 100
Type: Links / Coastal  |  Designer: Alister MacKenzie (1928)

Editor’s Note: Alister MacKenzie considered Cypress Point his finest work — above Augusta National, above Royal Melbourne, above Pasatiempo. The combination of cypress-forest holes, ocean meadow holes and the three-hole Pacific Ocean stretch (15, 16, 17) represents golf’s most dramatic finishing sequence outside the British Isles. Completely private; introduction essential. Pursue it through every network available. No course on earth better rewards the effort required to play it.

The Pacific Stretch — Holes 15, 16 & 17

  • Hole 15 — Par 3, 143 Yards: The approach to the Pacific Ocean — a short iron across a rocky cove to a promontory green. The first of three consecutive ocean holes.
  • Hole 16 — Par 3, 233 Yards: Golf’s most debated hole — a long carry entirely across the open Pacific Ocean. In normal conditions a mid-to-long iron; in wind, genuinely unreachable. The rocky Pacific shore below accepts everything that fails to carry. Bing Crosby once made a 16 here.
  • Hole 17 — Par 5, 375 Yards (Par 4 from back): The recovery hole after the drama of 16 — running back along the cliff edge. The green perches on the headland above the Pacific.
