Location: Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland | Ranking: #86
Designer: Kyle Phillips (2003) | Type: Links | Green Fees: From £120
Editor’s Note: Dundonald Links is the most accessible championship course in Ayrshire — open to all visitors year-round with no handicap restriction. Host of the Scottish Open on the DP World Tour, the course’s exposed links layout regularly produces the lowest scoring on the tour calendar because of its genuine risk-reward design. Kyle Phillips created a course that rewards aggressive play while punishing the wild miss — a perfect balance for tournament and recreational golf alike.

Key Notes & 19th Hole
- Scottish Open Host: The low scoring at Dundonald during DP World Tour events is a function of design — wide corridors encourage aggression, but the rough and green complexes punish anything not precisely controlled.
- Ayrshire Circuit: Combine Dundonald with Prestwick, Troon and Turnberry for the definitive Ayrshire golf week — all four courses within 20 miles.
- Gailes Hotel, Dundonald: Adjacent to the course — the most convenient overnight base for back-to-back Ayrshire rounds. Book via Expedia →
