The Global Golfer Top 100
Evian Resort Golf Club
Évian-les-Bains, Lake Geneva, France  ·  #26 in the World

Location: Divonne-les-Bains, Ain, France  |  Ranking: #26 — The Global Golfer Top 100
Type: Parkland / Alpine  |  Partner Stay: Royal Evian Hotel; Château de Divonne

Editor’s Note: Evian Resort Golf Club sits on the southern shore of Lake Geneva with the French Alps rising behind and Mont Blanc visible on clear mornings. The course itself is a Cabell Robinson redesign of a track first laid out in 1904 — and the combination of alpine air, perfect conditioning and the lake panorama makes every round here feel fundamentally different from any other golf in France. Host of the Evian Championship (LPGA Major) each July, the course is open to resort guests year-round.

Key Strategy Notes

  • The Alpine Factor: Ball flies noticeably further at Évian’s elevation (370m above sea level) — subtract one club from normal distances on approach shots.
  • Hole 7 — Par 5, 510 Yards: The signature hole — running along the lake terrace with Mont Blanc and the Chablais Alps as backdrop on clear days. The green complex is Robinson’s finest on the course.
  • Hole 18 — Par 4, 350 Yards: A short, dramatic finisher in front of the Belle Époque grandstand. The Evian Championship’s closing moments here — with the lake shimmering behind and thousands of spectators — are among the most atmospheric in women’s professional golf.
  • LPGA Major Week: The Evian Championship is held here every July — book the resort hotel during tournament week for an extraordinary atmosphere.

The 19th Hole

  • Royal Evian Hotel (5★ Palace): One of France’s most storied grand hotels — Belle Époque architecture overlooking the lake since 1909. The spa uses Évian mineral water in its treatments; Les Fresques restaurant is exceptional. Book via Expedia →
  • Château de Divonne (4★): 20 minutes west — a 19th-century château with excellent cuisine and a calmer atmosphere than the resort hotel.
  • Geneva day trip: Cross the lake to Geneva in 35 minutes — the UN, the CERN visitor centre, and one of the world’s great watchmaking and chocolate cultures.
