Location: Los Angeles, California, USA | Ranking: #59 — The Global Golfer Top 100
Type: Parkland/Canyon | Designer: George Thomas & Billy Bell (1927)
Editor’s Note: Riviera Country Club is the Riviera of American golf — where Hogan won the 1948 US Open, where Tiger Woods made his professional debut at 16, and where the Genesis Invitational (PGA Tour) is held every February. The combination of George Thomas’s canyon holes, Riviera’s barranca hazards and one of the most sophisticated layouts in American golf gives “The Riviera” its unique standing in the sport’s culture.

Key Notes & 19th Hole
- The Barranca: A deep ravine running throughout the course — Riviera’s defining hazard. Anything in the barranca is effectively unplayable; the routing constantly presents the risk.
- Hole 10 — Par 4, 315 Yards: The most famous short par 4 in American golf — driveable for PGA Tour professionals, with a sand bunker cut into the middle of the green. Drive or iron off the tee; the decision determines the entire hole.
- Los Angeles: The Getty Villa, Santa Monica, Venice Beach and the finest sushi in the USA within 30 minutes. LA hotels via Expedia →
