THE GLOBAL GOLFER UK's Golf, Wellness & Recovery Platform

Location: Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, California, USA  |  Ranking: #59
Type: Parkland / canyon  |  Design: George C. Thomas Jr. with William P. Bell

Editor’s Note: Riviera Country Club is one of the defining tournament venues in American golf. George Thomas’s routing, barranca hazards and compact strategic holes give the course an identity that extends well beyond its Los Angeles setting.

Access & Planning

Riviera is a private club. Golfers should not plan a Los Angeles trip on the assumption that visitor access can be purchased; current access must be arranged legitimately through the club or an eligible host.

Course Character

The natural barranca, changing elevation and angled green complexes reward position over brute force. The famous short par-four 10th illustrates the wider design: aggressive choices can create opportunity, but poor angles leave difficult recovery shots.

Key Notes

  • Championship history: Riviera has a long association with elite professional golf and major championship history.
  • Architecture: Thomas’s use of the canyon terrain and barranca is central to understanding the course.
  • Stay · Play · Recover: Los Angeles provides extensive accommodation, dining and recovery options, but TGG does not attach a generic hotel CTA that could imply access to this private course.
