The Global Golfer Top 100
Spyglass Hill Golf Course
Pebble Beach, California, USA  ·  #35 in the World

Location: Pebble Beach, California, USA  |  Ranking: #35 — The Global Golfer Top 100
Type: Forest/Heathland  |  Designer: Robert Trent Jones Sr. (1966)

Editor’s Note: Spyglass Hill is the hidden jewel of the Pebble Beach resort — consistently rated by PGA Tour professionals as the hardest of the three AT&T Pro-Am courses, harder even than Pebble Beach itself. The opening five holes run through Del Monte Forest; the remaining 13 drop into a wild valley below. The combination of ocean views on the high holes and dense forest atmosphere on the lower creates a course of extraordinary variety within a single round.

Key Strategy Notes

  • Hole 1 — Par 5, 600 Yards: The longest opening hole in resort golf — a downhill monster through Del Monte Forest with Stillwater Cove visible in the distance. Driver, 3-wood, mid-iron. Par is a very good result.
  • Holes 6–9: The descent into the valley — the course drops sharply through Monterey cypress and ice plant-covered dunes. Some of the most dramatic scenery in California golf.
