Golf. A spa that earns its place on the itinerary. Somewhere worth sleeping. This is how we travel.

Stay•Play•Recover is The Global Golfer’s framework for the golf trip done properly. Not a round and back to the car park. Not a budget hotel and an early checkout. A destination, a course, a night somewhere that makes the effort worthwhile — and a recovery protocol that means you can play again the next morning.

The best golf resorts in the world understand this instinctively. Gleneagles has the ESPA spa. Trump Turnberry has the clifftop hotel. Rudding Park has the underground spa beneath the rooftop course. Fairmont St Andrews has the bay view. These are not afterthoughts. They are the point. Golf is better when it sits within a complete experience.

Below are The Global Golfer’s Stay•Play•Recover properties — resorts and hotels where the course, the stay and the recovery are all worth making the journey for.

What Makes a Stay•Play•Recover Property?

Our Stay•Play•Recover designation is not awarded to every resort with a golf course. To earn it, a property must offer all three elements at genuine quality:

Stay — hotel accommodation of genuine quality. Not just adequate. Worth booking on its own merits.

Play — a course or courses on site, or direct access to a course that warrants the journey in its own right.

Recover — spa, wellness, physiotherapy or recovery facilities that make the next day’s golf possible. Ideally, that make the next day’s golf better.

A resort hotel with a mediocre course and a changing room sauna does not qualify. A spa hotel with no golf access does not qualify. The best properties earn all three designations equally.
