Editor’s view: The Faldo is the more strategic and exacting sibling to the Majlis. Water, angles and changing sightlines make it a strong test by day, while floodlit evening golf gives the experience a character few championship venues can match.

Why Play

The Faldo Course offers a different challenge from the better-known Majlis. Its appeal lies in strategic positioning, large water features, sculpted desert terrain and the opportunity to play championship golf beneath floodlights.

Course Character

The routing moves through a mature urban landscape framed by Dubai’s skyline. Broad visual spaces can disguise tight landing zones, while lakes and carefully placed bunkers repeatedly influence both tee shots and approaches.

The greens are generally generous in size but divided into distinct sections. Finding the correct level is often more important than simply hitting the putting surface.

Playing Intelligence

  • Choose the correct angle: the preferred side of the fairway can significantly simplify the approach.
  • Respect water: several holes tempt aggressive carries that offer limited reward after a marginal strike.
  • Control trajectory: wind and firm surfaces reward flighted iron shots.
  • Read green sections: finishing on the wrong tier can create defensive putting.
  • Prepare for night golf: depth perception changes under floodlights, so trust measured yardages.

Signature Holes

8th

A strong strategic hole where water and bunkering ask the golfer to select a precise line from the tee.

10th

An exacting start to the inward nine, demanding commitment and disciplined positioning.

16th

A late-round test where water and green shape place pressure on both club selection and execution.

18th

A demanding closing hole beneath the Dubai skyline, particularly memorable when played under lights.
