The Course
Trevose sits above Constantine Bay on the north Cornish coast — a championship links of around 6,800 yards that catches whatever the Atlantic chooses to deliver. The course was designed in its current form by Harry Colt and has been developed and refined over subsequent decades into a layout of genuine championship quality, capable of stretching the best players while remaining accessible to visiting golfers of all standards.
The setting is the principal draw: links turf on cliff-top ground with the Atlantic Ocean visible from multiple holes, Constantine Bay below, and the dramatic North Cornish headlands stretching in both directions. The wind is rarely absent and frequently strong — on a blustery August day, Trevose plays as an entirely different course to the same layout in calm conditions, and the golfer who does not adjust their game plan accordingly will find the card running away from them early.
What distinguishes Trevose from most other Cornish golf destinations is the resort infrastructure. Hotel accommodation, a leisure centre with pool, and the immediate accessibility of Padstow’s outstanding restaurant scene make it the most complete golf destination in the South West. Families and couples who want more than golf from a Cornish break will find everything they need within a short drive.
The Resort
Trevose operates as a genuine golf resort in the traditional sense — accommodation on site, multiple courses (the Championship, the 9-hole Short Course and the 9-hole Aldeburgh-style Holywell), and leisure facilities that make it a complete destination rather than simply a golf club with rooms. The welcome is warm and efficient, the accommodation comfortable, and the food adequate — for excellent dining, Padstow (10 minutes) is the obvious destination.
- Wind is the defining factor — check the forecast and adapt your game plan before the first tee
- The Short Course is ideal for an evening nine or as a warm-up — compact and well-designed
- Book dinner in Padstow in advance — the town’s restaurants are among the best in the South West
- Stay on site for the easiest access to early morning tee times when the course is at its quietest
- Constantine Bay beach is 10 minutes’ walk — an excellent option for partners who prefer the coast to the course
- St Enodoc (20 minutes) combines perfectly for a two-course North Cornwall golf break
