The Courses
Brickhampton Court offers something increasingly rare in English golf — a genuinely well-maintained 36-hole complex at a green fee that doesn’t require advance financial planning. The Glevum Course is the longer and more demanding of the two, a mature parkland layout that winds through established tree corridors and tests course management as much as ball-striking. The Sphinx Course provides a slightly shorter but no less engaging alternative, particularly suited to those building their game or looking for a more relaxed afternoon round.
The complex sits in open countryside between Gloucester and Cheltenham, with the Cotswold escarpment visible to the east providing a backdrop that the course itself cannot quite match but which lends the experience a sense of place. The ground drains reasonably well for a Gloucestershire parkland, meaning the complex remains playable through much of autumn and winter when comparable venues to the north and west become difficult.
What distinguishes Brickhampton from many value venues is the evident investment in infrastructure — the range is well-kept, the pro shop is properly stocked, and the overall operation feels like a business that takes its responsibilities to members and visitors equally seriously. This is a club that understands its position in the local golf ecosystem and delivers accordingly.
The Clubhouse
The clubhouse is comfortable and unpretentious — functioning catering, a well-regarded bar and a relaxed atmosphere that reflects the inclusive nature of the complex’s offer. Visitors are made to feel genuinely welcome rather than tolerated, which in the context of some Gloucestershire venues represents a genuine competitive advantage.
- Book the Glevum Course first — the Sphinx is an excellent follow-up on a return visit when you know the complex
- The location midway between Gloucester and Cheltenham makes it a natural base for a multi-course Gloucestershire day
- Green fees represent outstanding value by Cotswold-fringe standards — check the website for twilight and off-peak rates
- Combine with Cheltenham Golf Club or Cotswold Hills for a full Gloucestershire golf itinerary
- The driving range is one of the better-maintained in the county — worth arriving early to warm up properly
- Leckhampton Golf Club is nearby for a contrasting, more intimate hillside experience
The Cheltenham Chase Hotel
A well-positioned hotel on the edge of Cheltenham with comfortable rooms and easy access to both Brickhampton and the wider Gloucestershire golf circuit. A practical base for those playing multiple courses across a weekend, with Cheltenham’s Regency centre just minutes away for evening dining.
