The Course
The Point occupies a headland above Polzeath on the north Cornish coast, a position of such natural drama that the golf almost plays second fiddle to the scenery — and yet the holes themselves are better than the brevity of the card suggests. Nine holes of clifftop golf on Atlantic-facing ground, where the wind arrives without warning and the ball does not always go where physics would predict, deliver a challenge that is entirely genuine even if the yardage is modest.
The course sits at the northern end of the Camel Estuary complex — St Enodoc is immediately south, Trevose is accessible along the coast, and the entire North Cornwall golf corridor from Bude down to Newquay is reachable within an hour. Playing The Point as a companion round to St Enodoc — perhaps as a morning warm-up or an evening wind-down — is a combination that captures the full character of this particular stretch of coastline.
The holes use the clifftop contours intelligently — approaches that seem straightforward on flat ground become entirely different propositions when the lie tilts towards the sea and the wind is coming from the left. The par-threes are the holes to pay attention to: exposed, wind-amplified and with views that make club selection a genuine pleasure to negotiate. Polzeath Beach below is one of Cornwall’s finest surfing beaches, and the village’s good food and coastal atmosphere make this an outstanding location for a broader visit.
The Clubhouse
The facilities reflect the course’s character — informal, practical and oriented towards the experience of the golf and the landscape rather than the appointments of the clubhouse. Polzeath village is immediately adjacent for food, drink and everything else required after the round.
- Play this alongside St Enodoc on the same day — morning at The Point, afternoon on the Church Course, evening in Rock or Padstow
- The setting score of 9.5 is not hyperbole — the views from holes 4 and 7 are among the finest of any course in Cornwall
- Wind is decisive — the clifftop exposure means conditions change within a single hole. Club two more than you think
- Polzeath Beach below is one of Cornwall’s great surfing beaches — an ideal recovery destination after the round
- The Camel Estuary ferry to Padstow runs from Rock — an excellent evening option combining Cornwall’s finest restaurants with the day’s golf
- Trevose Golf Club is 20 minutes north — the full North Cornwall coastal golf circuit covers three outstanding venues in a weekend
The Mariners Rock, Rock
A well-regarded pub with rooms in Rock — directly across the Camel Estuary from Padstow, within minutes of both The Point and St Enodoc. The ideal informal base for the North Cornwall golf corridor, combining access to the estuary’s best golf courses with Rock’s excellent independent restaurants and the Padstow ferry just across the water.
