The Course
Worcester Golf & Country Club is one of the Midlands’ most respected members’ clubs — a mature parkland set within Boughton Park on the eastern edge of Worcester, where the tree-lined fairways have been developing their character since the club’s founding in 1898. The layout plays to a par of 70 over around 6,200 yards, a distance that demands accuracy rather than length and rewards the player who understands course management over the one who relies on power.
The parkland itself is genuinely beautiful — established beeches and oaks line the majority of the holes, narrowing corridors and demanding precision from the tee while providing a canopy that gives the course a particularly pleasing atmosphere in spring and autumn. The ground drains well for a Midlands parkland, remaining playable through most of the year, and the greens are consistently prepared to a standard that reflects the seriousness with which the club approaches its course.
The proximity of Worcester Cathedral — visible from the higher points of the course — adds a particular dimension to the playing experience. Worcester is an outstanding city for the visitor, with the Cathedral, the river Severn, the county cricket ground and a strong independent restaurant scene all within easy reach of the club. A round at Worcester Golf & Country Club works best as part of a city visit rather than a destination in its own right.
The Clubhouse
The clubhouse is well-appointed, with a catering offer that consistently satisfies and a bar that operates at the comfortable pace the parkland setting encourages. The professional operation is helpful and the welcome extended to visitors is professional without being impersonal. This is a club that has managed the balance between member priority and visitor hospitality thoughtfully.
- The Cathedral view from the higher fairways is one of the most quietly satisfying moments in Worcestershire golf — don’t rush past it
- Autumn is the finest season here — the beech and oak colour in October is genuinely exceptional
- Accuracy off the tee matters more than distance — the tree corridors punish loose driving severely
- Worcester city centre is outstanding for post-round culture, dining and the Severn riverside — plan to spend the afternoon
- Combine with Broadway Golf Club (Worcestershire border) and Cotswold Hills for a full Worcestershire-Cotswolds golf itinerary
- The county cricket ground is adjacent — check Worcestershire fixtures and combine if the timing works
